    The current curricular structure of the course aims to resize Design to the dimension of Integrated Design, with a distinctive offer not only in the region, but also in the national context. Understanding the necessary transformation of the market in which Design operates, there is a clear need to train young designers with a broader vision, so that they are able to respond to the challenges facing humanity. This cycle of studies promotes a holistic vision for the future design professional by learning technical and conceptual tools that respond to the field, but also by preparing young people to work in different dimensions through creative processes that can be applied to solving problems in different sectors. The scientific areas covered over the 3 years allow students to develop skills in transdisciplinarity, creativity and innovation - applied to areas of communication and strategy, technology, sustainability, health and social welfare, and governance, among others. In the 1st year, students acquire knowledge in different creative disciplines about the fundamentals of Creativity and Communication Design; in the 2nd year, they take an applied approach to different areas such as Brand Design, Strategy Design, Service Design, Experience and Usability Design, Product Design, Digital Design; and in the 3rd year they resize all their knowledge for the application of Design through Processes that allow them to develop Innovation in different sectors through concepts such as Design for the circular economy, Participatory design, Inclusive design, Design of territories, Design of governance, Social design, Design for health and well-being, Business design, Strategic design, Performative design, Design for future scenarios.

  • ObjectivosObjectives

    The course aims to train students in the field of Communication Design, laying a solid foundation for the integration of different aspects of Design. It combines technology and materialization, enabling strategic, sustainable and innovative interventions in various sectors. The main objective is to develop skills oriented towards the challenges of the future, promoting a comprehensive understanding of Design as an essential tool for creative thinking, problem solving and advancement in areas intrinsic to human dynamics, with a view to innovation and development. Students will acquire complementary skills such as critical thinking, creativity, active learning, simple and complex problem solving, ideation and innovation. Leadership and teamwork skills, mastery of technologies and monitoring, participation and activation of initiatives, as well as resilience and flexibility will also be worked on.

    - Students who have completed the 12th grade and taken the national exams indicated; - Holders of a technological specialization diploma in area CNAEF 8, who have taken the national exam indicated; - Holders of a professional higher technician diploma in area CNAEF 8, who have taken the national exam indicated; - Holders of professional courses in the CNAEF 813 area who have passed the Lusófona Group higher education entrance exam; - Over 23s who have passed a special ISMAT higher education entrance exam; - International students who have passed the ISMAT higher education entrance exam; - Holders of other higher education courses.

    At ISMAT we look to the skills of the present and the future, so we turn young people into designers capable of developing:

    - The ability to generate creative ideas and solve problems in an innovative way. - A unique eye for interpreting trends and transforming them into solutions geared towards the planet, nature and society. - Mastery of technical and digital tools: Knowledge of software such as Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma (UX/UI), Sketch, or 3D tools such as Blender and Cinema 4D. - AI-based design: Understanding of how artificial intelligence can be integrated into the creative process, and other technologies such as Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) to create immersive experiences. - Sustainability as a purpose for Design, in which results are oriented towards ecologically responsible visions, considering materials and production. - Critical Thinking and Problem Solving through creative processes, which are built on decisions based on data and feedback (Co-design and Co-Creativity). - Capacity for empathetic connections through dialog with clients and the ability to articulate clear ideas and concepts, whether in presentations or collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. - Training with flexibility and adaptation tools. - Project management, familiarity with agile methodologies for collaborative design. - Multidisciplinaridade de disciplinas correlacionadas. - Ability to analyze global cultural and social trends to create relevant designs. Sensitivity to issues such as diversity and inclusion. - Personal development, through the creation of a sense of belonging, in which continuous learning is valued. - Portfolio building: Creating and maintaining a portfolio that shows a diversity of projects and skills.

    The Communication Design course allows you to continue your studies in the areas of Design, Arts and/or Multimedia at 2nd Cycle - Master's level.

    Applicants to this cycle of studies are those who apply through the institutional access competition and have passed one of the following sets of entrance exams.

    03 Drawing 10 Descriptive Geometry or 10 Descriptive Geometry 18 Portuguese or 03 Drawing 18 Portuguese or 11 History 18 Portuguese or 13 English 18 Portuguese or 09 Geography 18 Portuguese

    Candidates can also enter through the change of institution/course pair system or through a Special Competition, in accordance with the legal rules in force (holders of a higher education degree, holders of a Technological Specialisation Course, holders of a Higher Professional Technical Course or over 23 years of age). Candidates who fulfil the conditions laid down in the International Student Statute may also enter.
